radioprotective effects of lentil sprouts against x-ray radiation

چکیده
the present study investigated the radioprotective efficacy of lentil ( lens culinaris ) sprouts against x-ray radiation-induced cellular damage. lentil seeds were dark germinated at low temperature and the sprout extract was prepared in pbs. free radical scavenging of extract was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (dpph) assay and then the radioprotective potency of extract (0 to 1000 µg/ml) on the lymphocyte cells was determined by lactate dehydrogenases assay. moreover, micronuclei assay was assessed using the cytokinesis-block technique. the irradiations were performed using 6 mv x-ray beam. the value of ic 50 for dpph assay was 250 µg/ml. the median lethal dose for radiation was determinate at 5.37 gy. pretreatment with lentil sprout extract at 1000 µg/ml reduced cytotoxicity at 6 gy total concentration from 70% to 50%. the results of micronuclei assay indicated that cells were resistant to radiation at concentrations of 500-1000 µg/ml of exogenous lentil sprout extract. the value of median effective concentration for micronuclei assay was 500 µg/ml. the results indicated that lentil sprout extract showed actually somewhat radioprotective effect on lymphocyte cell. in addition, the obtained results suggest that extract of total lentil sprout have more antioxidant activity than radicle part.

Dosimetry of Occupational Radiation around Panoramic X-ray Apparatus
Background: Panoramic imaging is one of the most common imaging methods in dentistry. Regarding the side-effects of ionizing radiation, it is necessary to survey different aspects and details of panoramic imaging. In this study, we compared the absorbed x-ray dose around two panoramic x-ray units: PM 2002 CC Proline (Planmeca, Helsinki, Finland) and Cranex Tome (Soredex, Helsinki, Finland).<br ...

The results obtained from this study suggest the following: The concentration of total serum proteins in mice is changed very little under the various treatments, while protein fractions showed significant alterations. The concentrations of various serum proteins remain almost constant under normal conditions. Intraperitoneal administration of imidazole or benzimidazle at the mentioned doses in...

Threats of nuclear and other radiologic exposures have been increasing but no countermeasure for acute radiation syndrome has been approved by regulatory authorities. In prior publications we have demonstrated the efficacy of tocopherol succinate (TS) as a promising radiation countermeasure with the potential to protect against lethal doses of ionizing radiation exposure. The aim of this study ...

متن کاملRadioprotective Potential of Plants and Herbs against the Effects of Ionizing Radiation
Ionizing radiations produce deleterious effects in the living organisms and the rapid technological advancement has increased human exposure to ionizing radiations enormously. There is a need to protect humans against such effects of ionizing radiation. Attempts to protect against the deleterious effects of ionizing radiations by pharmacological intervention were made as early as 1949 and effor...
